BBCより 言葉はピンボールのように のお話

最近ばたついていまして、久々の更新です。
今回はBBCより、2015年の記事なのですが「面白かったのでぜひ！」ということで、Rahul Vermaさん著のこちらの記事を紹介させていただきます。

As it has been a little bit frantic, I was not able to write any pieces for a while. But today, I would like to introduce the below story written by Rahul Verma from BBC.
紹介: About the Article
パジャマにショールにシャンプー、カレーにマンゴーにカシミアなどなど。一見(私も含め)、イギリスがインドを植民地支配していた時代に、英語に入ってきて使われるようになったと思われている単語。
Pyjama, shawl, shampoo, curry, mango, and cashmere… Today, these words are all "English" words, but where and how do all these words come from? Probably as I did, you might guess they came from India during its colonialisation.
しかし、実はそんなに単純な経路を辿って英語になった訳ではないそうで。古代ギリシャにラテン語、ウルドゥー語にマラヤーラム語、タミル語、ポルトガル語に古フランス語にヒンディー語と、歴史の中をピンボールのように動いて英語になった、一見インド由来?と単純に考えられている 英語の言葉の複雑な歴史について のお話です。
But according to this BBC article, the reality is a little bit more complex. Ancient Greek, Latin, Urdu, Malayalam, Tamil, Pourtugees, Old French, Hindi... In fact, These words pinballed around the world along with the travel of the goods they signify before entering English.
