The Guardianより 蔓延する孤独の原因 について

さておき今回はThe GuardianよりGeorge Monbitさん著のオピニオン系の記事を紹介します。タイトルはストレートに『ネオリベラリズムが生み出す孤独』。オピニオンのページを読んでいて、シンプルでありながらストレートなこのタイトルに引かれてクリックしたところ、読むほどに紹介したいと思いました。

Anyway, the other day, when I was navigating The Guardian's Opinion page, I came across an article. It was written by George Morbit, and its straightforward title caught my attention. And as I continue to read, I am increasingly intrigued to introduce it.

突然ですが、身体的苦痛と孤独のどちらかを選ばなければいけないとしたらどちらを選びますか？そしてそれはなぜでしょうか。私は身体的苦痛の方を選ぶと思います。
それにしてもどうしてそんなことを聞いたのか。
Physical pain or isolation, if you had to or were forced to choose either one of them, which would you choose and why? Personally, I would go for the former, physical pain. But why am I asking this?
記事のタイトルにあるように、人間は社会的な生きものであるにもかかわらず、ネオリベラリズムの構造の中で生み出した数々のサービスや発明によって、人間がどんどん孤独になっている、というお話です。
As the title of the article "Neoliberalism is Creating Loneliness" suggests, the author argues that though being one of the social mammals, we have rendered ourselves lonely with our numerous inventions rooted in neoliberalism.
Monbitさんの意見ももちろん非常に興味深いのですが、それと同じくらい記事の中で紹介されている孤独がもたらすさまざまな悪影響についての研究やデータもとても面白いです。冒頭の「身体的苦痛と孤独ならどちらを選ぶか？」も、そのうちの一つでして、結果についてももちろん記事内で紹介されています。
His argument is as convincing and interesting as the research and statistical data he cites in the article. You can check the answer to the question I asked at the begging, "Physical pain or isolation, if people have to choose, which would they choose?"
